Souths Cares was established in 2006 as an independent, not-for-profit public benevolent institution. Souths Cares is a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status charity.
Souths Cares charter is to support disadvantaged and marginalised youth and their families through the delivery of capacity building programs addressing education, training, health and employment needs.
Souths Cares was originally established to support social needs within the South Sydney region, however the demand for community programs has resulted in Souths Cares expanding into Western Sydney, South Western Sydney and regional NSW.
Souths Cares leverages the popularity of Rugby League, the Rabbitohs brand and high profile ambassadors to engage with individuals and communities to deliver community programs. The organisation has three key focus areas:
- Healthy and Active Lifestyles
Additionally, Souths Cares has the capacity to deliver ad-hoc, emergency and demand driven initiatives to help meet the needs of our community as they arise.
Souths Cares works extensively with the Aboriginal community of South Sydney and acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land, elders past and present and the importance of young people as the future of our communities.
The organisation has received recognition from the Social Impact Measurement Network Australia (SIMNA) in 2014 and 2016 for implementing best-practice in program evaluation, transparency and reporting.
